A diabetic diet requires discipline. Properly applied, it will help maintain the right balance of sugar in the body. This diet has the main use in people with diabetes mellitus, however, it can also be used by people who do not want to become ill.After all, prevention is better than cure. This type of nutrition can be used by any person, taking into account their individual daily calorific requirements. Consultation with a doctor is the best solution in this respect.
The basic principles of diabetic diet are as follows:
Observance of the daily dietary schedule. This means that you eat the first meal at least 2 hours after waking up and the last 2 hours before bedtime;
The diet must be based on a daily calorie demand schedule;
The meals should contain each group of food, i. e. fats, carbohydrates, proteins, etc;
The most recommended products containing protein are fish and lean meat. Of course, legumes and lean dairy products can also be used;
Sources of fat in the diet may be vegetable oils, nuts;
We can use all vegetables except potatoes, beetroot and maize. These should be eaten as little as possible, max. 2 times a week;
Drinks should be consumed without added sugar, of course the best is ordinary, clean, non-carbonated water or sugar-free coffee;
Meals in a diabetic diet should be eaten quite often in smaller amounts. Ideally, this should be done in 3-4 hours intervals. This helps to eliminate the feeling of hunger.
This in turn is associated with a reduction in the concentration of sugar in our body. Generally 3 main meals are recommended for this diet, i. e. breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks during the day, i. e. 2 breakfast and snacks. The daily dietary plan based on a diabetic diet should consist of carbohydrates (50-60%), fats (30%) and protein (10-15%).
