Elimination diet meal plan

Elimination diet

Elimination diets for whom?

Medical reasons such as intolerance or allergic reactions to a particular product or group of products should be cause of elimination diet. It is good to know that this type of illness often goes hand in hand with other illnesses. Irritable Bowel Syndrome and autoimmune diseases.

In this case, modified diet should also take into account the nutritional recommendations for accompanying disease unit. If you are allergic or intolerant at home, it is important to consult your diet plan directly with your dietician - this will make it easier for you to take first step in creating a new diet.

Applying elimination diets implies an increased risk of food deficiency, so diet modifications should not be introduced without clear medical advice and without consultation with a specialist. When going on this diet, be aware that abandonment of a particular product group must entail increased consumption of foods that provide same nutrients.

If we forget about it, we are at risk of general weakness of body and other, sometimes more serious consequences of food shortages. Modifying menu on its own is especially dangerous for adolescents whose organism is growing exponentially.

Diet eliminating food intolerance is a must!

Elimination diet will not cure us of allergies or intolerances, but will help alleviate symptoms of abdominal discomfort such as abdominal pain, bloating, gases, skin changes, muscle aches or headaches. Keep in mind that eating an allergenic or intolerant product can endanger your health or even your life!

It is also worth mentioning psychological benefits of absence of digestive, painful or dermatological ailments. Digestive problems caused by intolerances and food allergies and accompanying inconveniences can lead to nervousness, embarrassment or shame.

These types of problems can lead to mood swings or lower self-esteem. Restoring balance of body through elimination of intolerant products has a positive effect on one's mood, which translates into increased self-acceptance and optimistic attitude to life.

Proper balancing of the diet with elimination diet

There are many products that can cause allergic reactions. Among most popular allergens labeled on foodstuffs are gluten, crustaceans, molluscs, fish, nuts, soybeans, milk and derived products, celery, mustard, sesame and lupins.

If we are intolerant or allergic to individual ingredients such as peanuts or crustaceans, it is enough to eliminate them from diet. However, in case of whole groups of dietary supplements such as dairy or cereal products, it is necessary to find more and more substitutes in stores.

In case of chicken egg allergy, if there is not enough common cross-allergy in us, let's put on a quail egg substitute. If we are allergic to dairy products, we substitute them for those made from soybeans. Unfortunately, in this case, we also have to be highly probable with simultaneous allergy to soybeans or other ungulates.

In this situation, we substitute milk with vegetable drinks made of almonds, oats or rice. Let meat, fish and other legumes be source of protein. When our body does not tolerate lactose, we look for more popular non-lactose products in stores.

Having celiac disease or any food hypersensitivity to gluten, let's introduce gluten-free cereal grain counterparts such as: millet, buckwheat, amaranth, rice gourd, gluten free breads and gluten-free flour.

By eliminating meat in a vegetarian diet, we must remember to increase  intake of protein from other sources such as legumes or, if we allow them to consume, dairy products and eggs. With allergies to fish and seafood, we supply the body of Omega 3 fatty acids from other sources of nuts, linseed oil or rape oil.

Introducing an elimination diet with intolerance or food allergy should have a positive impact on both physical and mental health of affected person. Not only will it reduce digestive problems and accompanying ailments, but it will also significantly improve comfort of your life. It is important to approach this task conscientiously and responsibly, because diets that are being run inconsistently will not produce expected results.
